IKEA Kitchen Makeover Cheap and Chic

I would do an Ikea kitchen makeover in second. I am totally inspired by these cabinets below used in both the catalogue and by Jonathan Adler in Liz Lange's Hamptons Home.Notice how Jonathan changed the knobs - game changer right?  Has anyone used this before? Please share success stories :).

  1. I do not have an Ikea kitchen but I love the looks of them. I have seen many amazing kitchens in decor magazines created with Ikea- I think with a little customization (like the knobs) they can look really exceptional.

  6. I installed IKEA cabinets two years ago and couldn't be happier with them. We loooove the soft-close drawer and door hardware and the corner cabinets that gave us access to previously wasted space. I prowled IkeaFans.com for ideas, advice, hack ideas, etc. and they were enormously helpful. It was there that I learned about getting door fronts from other companies. I was nervous about using IKEA's MDF doors because I have three small kids and you can't paint or repair MDF. It turns out that quite a few companies in the US sell wood doors that fit IKEA cabinets. We used a company called Scherr's in North Dakota and were very happy with them. Now I'm really glad I did because the doors have gotten dinged and nicked around the bottom edges (mostly from toys slamming into them) and it takes just a little dab of paint to make them look like new. This is our first time living with white doors and although they brighten the space a lot, the color is not very forgiving. I have to run a damp cloth over them frequently to keep dust and drips from building up in the crevices. But it's totally worth it. I would do it all again if I had the chance.
